Our feedback to the EU Sustainable Products Initiative: products should explain how we can install another operating system of our choice, we should have full access to hardware, and the product passport registry should be offered as Open Data to EU citizens.
Don’t annoy GNOME developers if this is buggy - I‘ve briefly tried this and have to agree with @calebccff (https://nitter.net/calebccff/status/1536084663445356545#m) that this edition should not be a thing yet, it’s just too early.
We just released #postmarketOS v22.06 with the release name "The One Where We Started Using Release Titles"!
This release is the first one where we support between release upgrading, so no need to reinstall anymore with every new release. This is also the first release with support for the #SHIFT6mq and the Samsung Galaxy S3!
Read all about it at https://postmarketos.org/blog/2022/06/12/v22.06-release/
Shipping unfinished patches harms the user experience and slows down the review process in #FOSS projects to improve the patches.

SCAM: Lightmoon IS NOT Kdenlive. Lightmoon is MALWARE.
We have been notified of a site that is using Kdenlive's name and likeness to distribute malware to users. We will not be linking to the site to avoid accidental downloads, but if a search lands you on a site offering "lightmoon", "a free video editor" that looks in the screenshots identical to Kdenlive, this is malware.

@shiftphones, a German phone company producing ethically sourced smartphones with a focus on repairability is now on Mastodon! They shipped #postmarketOS some phones to help develop mainline Linux support and get our system running well on it and so they are awesome in my book 😉
Go say hi and welcome them to the fediverse!
For almost five years, we have been doing the exercise of replacing stock OS on phones. We can tell first hand how oftentimes unnecessarily difficult/impossible it is. In the interest of reducing the insane amount of e-waste and truly being in control of our devices, we need laws that allow us to install any software on any device!
Thanks to @fsfe for writing a nice open letter about just that, we happily signed it:
It's time for another service pack. It's a small one and in fact the last one for v21.12 - meaning next month around this time we'll have v22.06 out!
Not only that, but this #surveillance nightmare is brought on the table over and over again. It is against #European values and rights to #Privacy. It erodes #trust with people that #EuropeanCommission is working in the collective best interest.
What's next? Camera's in our home, so we can all feel safe knowing big brother is watching over us?
You know the amazing https://mobile.twitter.com/biktorgj who singlehandedly created a nearly-FOSS userland modem firmware for the #pinephone and #pinephonepro ? He supports the community, is incredibly stubborn, err, persistent, in the face of a weird modem and regularly improves the firmware. You can even tell your phone modem to remind you to buy milk now via SMS. He likes coffee and we think he deserves some as a token of gratitude 😍! Pour him one ☕ https://ko-fi.com/biktorgj
@bart @firstname.lastname@example.org @carlschwan @samsumas we @postmarketOS devs are pretty excited to get all the SHIFT6mq patches upstream, initial support is landing in 5.18 and it's shaping up to be a pretty great option for the Linux phone enthusiast. An ethical manufacturing process and a sustainable FOSS oriented vendor, you can't really ask for more :p
