@shiftphones, a German phone company producing ethically sourced smartphones with a focus on repairability is now on Mastodon! They shipped #postmarketOS some phones to help develop mainline Linux support and get our system running well on it and so they are awesome in my book π
Go say hi and welcome them to the fediverse!
For almost five years, we have been doing the exercise of replacing stock OS on phones. We can tell first hand how oftentimes unnecessarily difficult/impossible it is. In the interest of reducing the insane amount of e-waste and truly being in control of our devices, we need laws that allow us to install any software on any device!
Thanks to @fsfe for writing a nice open letter about just that, we happily signed it:

It's time for another service pack. It's a small one and in fact the last one for v21.12 - meaning next month around this time we'll have v22.06 out!
#ChatControl is some serious crazy stuff where #EU citizens can only scratch their head and think "How could they come up with this?"
Not only that, but this #surveillance nightmare is brought on the table over and over again. It is against #European values and rights to #Privacy. It erodes #trust with people that #EuropeanCommission is working in the collective best interest.
What's next? Camera's in our home, so we can all feel safe knowing big brother is watching over us?

You know the amazing https://mobile.twitter.com/biktorgj who singlehandedly created a nearly-FOSS userland modem firmware for the #pinephone and #pinephonepro ? He supports the community, is incredibly stubborn, err, persistent, in the face of a weird modem and regularly improves the firmware. You can even tell your phone modem to remind you to buy milk now via SMS. He likes coffee and we think he deserves some as a token of gratitude π! Pour him one β https://ko-fi.com/biktorgj
@bart @dukethereal@mastodon.xyz @carlschwan @samsumas we @postmarketOS devs are pretty excited to get all the SHIFT6mq patches upstream, initial support is landing in 5.18 and it's shaping up to be a pretty great option for the Linux phone enthusiast. An ethical manufacturing process and a sustainable FOSS oriented vendor, you can't really ask for more :p
Call management π and phone status reports π πΆ with #Bluetooth HFP devices are coming to #linuxmobile π± through #ModemManager & #PulseAudio π on @postmarketOS !
Dialing numbers, accepting, rejecting, and hanging up calls are possible through any #Bluetooth HFP device so you drive safely while making a #handsfree call!
See the demo on @peertube: https://tube.tchncs.de/w/xbfPeVxkZF3TaurTh2DfYR
Of course there's already an #upstream MR: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/merge_requests/693

FYI for newbies
Twitter has algorithms to get you engaged. Mastodon does not. So in order to enjoy Mastodon you have to take some time to reach out and find content and follow folks that you enjoy. Don't expect Mastodon to send you random popular posts to keep you engaged, you have to curate your own feed. But this is good! It gives you control.
A few years ago I made this flow chart of which Mastodon posts end up in which timelines!
So, you can see how each instance will have a different local timeline, and even a slightly different federated timeline - and you can see why the federated timeline moves so much faster than the local one, too.
This is why it's important to boost good posts and use hashtags - the fediverse is fragmented and harder to search by nature.
Please do theme our apps
We are developers and designers making user-friendly apps. We take pride in our craft and work hard to make sure our applications are a great experience for people.
Unfortunately, there are increasing efforts on the current market to disallow or discourage customization. This worsens user experience for a lot of software.
Kirigami colour sets allow developers to easily make their UI work with any colour schemes.
Icon Themes allow users to have a unified view across different applications.
Application styles allows users to decide how a button is represented, how wide a scroll bar should be, etc.
All these not only give users the freedom to decide how the applications should behave, but also make room for accessibility considerations like larger buttons, more visible focus indication, and more contrastive colours and shades.
This is why we believe application developers should be aware of the possibility to customize its appearance.
If you are an application developer, we kindly ask that you do not hard-code any colour or size, but rather follow the system styles.
On a platform level, we should implement a colour set editor that informs users about what colours might be put where, and advises about how contrastive the foreground and the background are in different places.
If you are a user or distribution maintainer that ships our apps, and you are having issues with our apps on your customized colour set or application style, please do tell us, and we can figure out the cause of the problem.
Signed, tusooa, maintainer of kazv.

Hey @nitrokey, when are you going to fix copying of HOTP codes to the clipboard on Wayland sessions? For a year already I have been having to log out and switch to a X11 session and back if I want to login to a service for which I have setup 2FA and it's really annoying
