They specifically market to average users, and even though their product will come with Android in the first version, they are working towards alternative OSs. When Canonical ended their involvement in mobile, prospects for a consumer-device with an alternative OS suddenly seemed very bleak, so this is a positive development.
One project alone will never be able to challenge the duopoly, we need to work together from many different angles.
